Winter is fast approaching and with the hurricanes hitting the English shores its definitely time to wrap up warm!  Being warm doesn’t mean compromising on style though; we look at some of the hottest winter trends for designer children’s clothes.

New grunge

According to Teen Vouge, it’s all about the teen spirit as grunge is making a comeback… but this time it’s with a Jimmy Choo bag. Oversized knits with Dr Martins boots are ‘must haves’ for the winter months as well as the staple flannel shirt. Long hair and moshing are not requirements for the new season look.

 Young Country Gent

Getting all suited and booted in a dapper fashion is also on the cards for the winter months.  Heritage is very big this season for adults and it clearly shines though into the world of children’s fashion. The typical young gent can be seen sporting a pair of hunter wellies, dark jeans and a Burberry Gilet for his casual outings, and a rather darling tweed blazer with a crisp shirt for his social occasions. Check out this green tweed wool blazer from Gant, £136.

 Military

Stella McCartney has wowed us once again with her innovative designs and ultra chic fashion for kids. Military is a running theme through her latest collection and we can’t get enough of this girls navy military jacket with a bold red trim and beige epaulets at the shoulders, complete with stylish silver buttons and pin badge. Match with boots and red accessories to get the military look.

Puffer Jackets

Babies, boys and girls are all exposed to the “puffer jacket” this winter as designers like Dior, DKNY and Ralph Lauren all produce puffy, bright colour coats. From neon pink jackets rimmed with raccoon fur from Dior (£373) to subtle navy puffer jackets from Boss baby (£137).

Anyone want to play cowboys and Indians?  Well with children’s designer clothing label Waddler, everyday can be a game inspired by the Wild Wild West.

This new collection continues the tradition of the unique South American style in the Waddler clothes.

The designs are fun and practical – perfect for babies and young children to play in.  The Mitten Overalls, for example are easy to wear and give your baby flexibility for moving around in whatever the environment.  They also come with cute bunny mittens.

For babies and tots, the Waddler Wolf suit is cute and warm for rummaging around after animal trails in, or for blustery days by the sea.

Ruff neck jumpers and loose fitting trousers are also a staple in the Waddler collection.  The cute knitted booties are made with 100 Baby Alpaca and come in winter white with green suede soles.

The new collection from children’s designer clothing label Waddler is inspired by South America after the designers moved from London with their first baby boy.  Their designs, material and patterns reflect their experiences of travelling across the Andean region that lies between Argentina, Peru and Bolivia.

Their first collection for boys and girls, newborn to five years olds, uses luxuriously soft wool and to fair trade standards in 100 percent baby Alpaca.

As reported on the guardian, Philip Thompson and his wife Marina set up their own children’s clothing business in Bolivia.  Their inspirations were the people and the spirit of the natives, and they wanted to use their luxurious materials to express the spirit of freedom and adventure they wanted their children to experience.

“Bolivia was, and continues to be, an inspiration. We feel privileged to produce in an environment where quality still trumps quantity, and in a country where adventure and wonder wait just around the corner,” Philip Thompson told the Guardian.

Burberry has announced their sales were up by 33 percent in the six months to the end of March 2011, indicating they are the designer of choice this year.  We take a look at their new children’s designer clothing wear arrivals, to glimpse what fashion has in store for the rest of the year.

The designer brand took a total revenue of £860 million, with better than expected in-season orders, and strong growth in menswear.  Prosum and Burberry London outperformed in particular.

“Burberry had a strong finish to the year, driven by our design, digital marketing and retail initiatives, as well as good early progress in China,” commented Angela Ahrendts, Burberry Group plc chief executive officer.

“While the luxury industry faces global challenges in the year ahead, we remain confident in our team’s ability to outperform, underpinned by the consistent execution of our key strategies.”

Children’s Designer Clothing

So what is all the fuss about?  Let’s take a look at the Burberry children’s designer clothing new arrivals to see how this popular designer brand is shaping summer trends.

The clothes follow a strict red, yellow or blue colour theme, meaning bold, bright colours are to scatter British beaches this year as fashionable tots are kitted out in Burberry fashion.

Whether it’s a bright yellow cape to help you spot your little one in a crowd, or a red, blue or yellow polo shirt, Burberry summer wear is bold and not to missed.

For kids aged 2-6 years old, why not go for the classic Burberry trench coat, even with summer sunshine in Britain with temperatures hitting the high 20s, we should still be prepared for the typical British showers.

For summer you could take this classic trench coat and choose a more colourful option.  The Double Breasted Pack Away Nylon Trench coat for example comes in jet blue, viola, or trench white.

Parisian childrenswear designer, Bonpoint, has showcased its new Spring/Summer collection with its very own children’s fashion show.

With their 30 year reputation, Bonpoint has also been spotted by Selfridges London, as the department store now stocks the boutique clothes on the third floor in the heart of the childrenswear department, reported Junior Magazine.

The new line showcased floaty materials with 60s style cuts finished off with elf-like head bands to create a fairy tale look mixed with the hippy style popular 40 years ago.

The outfits were in-line with the trend in French fashion, in muted, understated colours which instead exuded elegance and sophistication, even for little ones.

My Summer Basket

This line of designer children’s clothes saw the girls strut their stuff in checked dresses, comfortable shorts, jeans, t-shirts, and jackets – everything you would need to look the part on a summer picnic.

Checks, stripes or prints were the theme in My Summer Basket – clothes to play in, run around in and for general monkeying around in.

Smart Dresses

Bonpoint’s aim with their smart dresses range is to encompass the colour of summer into their floaty, fairy dresses.

Several different shades of muted greens are seen, along with browns, pale pinks and a lot of white to wear on a hot summer’s day.

Lea’s Selection

This selection is more practical, with deeper colours so the clothes can be worn in all situations and any dirt picked up will not be as noticeable.

Sixties and Romantic

This covers the main theme of the new collection, interpreting the easy to wear styles in My Summer Basket, with the shapes of the Smart Dresses, into romantic frocks, t-shirts and scarves.

For boys, the looks revolved around loose fitted shirts and shorts in checks and khaki colours – a country look fit for working on a Texan ranch – yee-ha!

Babylady Inc has launched its spring 2011 collection of designer children’s clothes, find out more about the styles and trends in kids fashion.

The founder and designer behind Babylady Inc clothes is Brooklyn mum Kat West, creating designer children’s clothes as a means to enlighten people’s lives through fashion.  As a creative person she sees the clothes as something different and inspiring, her own inspiration, her children themselves.

The spring line features a number of innovative designs not seen anywhere else on the highstreet.  The general theme appears to concentrate around a simple check material in interesting never before seen designs, and embellished with scarves and hats.

The tighttrope bloomers is Babylady Inc’s version of board shorts, and as they are elasticized at the waist they are easy to put on and are comfortable to run around in.  They are longer than board shorts, falling just below the knee, and as such create a new silhouette.

The ellie dress comes in three colours, red or green checked, or just bold red.  The dress interestingly has a false back sleeve and nips in at the waist to keep it looking pretty and girly.

The starfish jumpsuit is perfect for playful kids, as it has plenty of room for your little ones to play in without the material prone to rip.  It has pintuck gathered detailing at the front, and loop closures in the back.  The elasticised cuffs give the outfit ultimate movement.

The clothes are all quite baggy with elasticised waists and cuffs, making them suitable for kids of all sizes and easier for mums to buy without their little one with them.  The baggy designs also give kids room to grow into them, so they are likely to be wearing them for longer than other designs.
