Whilst purse strings are tightened during the run up to Christmas, that doesn’t mean fashion has to be sacrificed. You can often find some great designer clothes for kids, for less and here’s how…

Shop online

One of the best ways to find a bargain is by shopping online. Not only can it save you money and time, but it could also be a less stressful experience than pushing a buggy around a busy shopping centre.

You can often find cute and adorable discounted designer children’s clothes from outlets such as Half Pint Chic. Leading brands such as Caramel Baby& Child, Baby Graziella, Bonnie Baby, Simonetta and Egg by Susan Lazaar all feature on the website, often at discounted prices.

If it’s not to your liking or doesn’t fit, you can pop the item in the post and send it back based on the terms and conditions of sale.

Mix and match

You can often dress up any old outfit with a few new accessories. For example, a new pair of shoes will add to a pair of old jeans. Check out these Converse black high top trainers for an ultra cool look. They are perfect for any casual outing for either boys or girls. Founded in 1908, Converse is now an internationally recognised brand which oozes skateboard chic. Available from £20.

Alternatively, why not buy a new pair of tights to give the outfit or dress a new spin for girls. We love these heart printed tights with lace by Harrods. Made from luxury cotton and featuring a frill of delicate lace, they are perfect for dressing up and playing. Available for those aged 6 months up to 2 years old, from £22.95.

Asda’s George collection may be at the opposite end of the spectrum to designer children’s clothes, but they are certainly more forward thinking when it comes to designing children’s clothes.

Recently, French Vogue caused a media storm by publishing images of a ‘sexualised’ 10-year-old model. This injected some life into the age-old debate of children growing up too fast. Asda has now taken this on board and looked at ways to make kids clothing more ‘age appropriate’. What better way to do so than by having children design the range?

The supermarket conducted a nationwide search across popular websites used by teenagers such as Facebook and SugarScape to find aspiring teenage designers with an eye for fashion.

Four girls were chosen in July to become ‘George Style Scouts’, they ranged from 12 to 16 years old.

They developed a range over the summer entitled the ‘Love2 Laugh’ collection, which will be available in stores from 17th October. The new Christmas collection is aimed at girls aged between 9 and 16.

The judges were impressed with the young fashionistas’ knowledge of the catwalk, designers and general trends.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Paula Fowler, Head of Childrenswear at ‘George at Asda’, said; 'We wanted to launch a capsule collection that would genuinely appeal to girls aged 9-16, and what better way to achieve this than enlist the help of four of the UK’s trendiest teens!

'It’s been great getting insight from the girls on what appeals to the notoriously hard to reach tween market and we’re confident that this new collection will be a hit with all young budding fashionistas.'

Love 2 Laugh includes t-shirts, dresses, leggings and more.
